"Morrisey was taking money on the door that night and he watched the gig with Tony Wilson & Mick
Middles" - Bernard & Joe from 'Pips'

Yes I was at that gig and reviewed it for Sounds. Can't recall a great deal, alas. Hooky must have impressed
me because the review finished with the line"...plus they have a bassist who could eat Jean Jacques Burnell
for breakfast." The Stranglers had played a lot in Manchester and had become friends with The Drones. I remember
enjoying Ice Age in particular. Don't know who was drumming at that time but I do recall being harangued all eve
by Steve Brotherdale (B'Dale) who seemed to be pretending to be some kind of big promoter. Wouldn't have known
Morrissey on the door although he did man the door at a number of ACR gigs...or so he says in Autobiography. That
is about all I recall I am afraid. Best Mick
