Frederick William Webb

1901 census - aged 34 - living at 19 Somerley Street, Wandsworth, Laundryman Wash, at home with Alice, Frederick & Edward (sons)
Frederick was a drinker and a gambler and in 1907, due to his gambling debts,
he sold the business over Alice's head. They
moved
to Robsart Street. Frederick's spinster sister, Bessie, then financed the family getting a house in St Matthew's Road (no. 36), saying it was
the 'last she would do' to help him. Frederick went to look at the house at 36 St Matthew's Road. Next door, no.
38 was an empty chapel and St Matthew's School was just along the road. They moved in and had to get permission
to make a galley for the water to run through for the laundry. There was a big room which they used as an ironing
room, a small drying room and they used copper baths to wash the clothes.
Fred died aged 82. He is interred at Wandsworth cemetery, grave no 576442
