The Webbs
James Webb¹§ was born in London in about 1796, and married Mary Ann Burgess§ (born about 1800) on 11th Oct 1819 at St Leonard's Church, Shoreditch, London.
He was an engineer, and he died in early 1837, leaving his wife, Mary Ann about to give birth and with 6 children
between the ages of 16 and 8. He was buried at St Mary's Church, Lambeth on 19th March 1837 (source: Parish Records).
When he died the family were living at Vauxhall walk, Lambeth.

5) Mary Ann Margaret Webb
Born 1826 / 1827 - aged 34 on the 1861 census, a dressmaker, living with her brother Thomas, his wife and children at Falcon Road Battersea. Not found afterwards.
6) Edward John Burgess Webb (Ned)
Shown in the photo to the left
Christened 16th April 1837, Saint Mary, Lambeth, London, England.
This was a tragic time for his family: his baptism record shows his father as "James, engineer, (dec?)"
and indeed, burial records show that James was buried on 19th March that same year. At the time, the family was
living at Vauxhall Walk, Lambeth. (source: Parish Records)

Alfred is an engineer turner. Possibly Florence Ann Somerville marr ref: 1898 Sept Wandsworth 1d 1038 Found her
in 1891 census - her age and place of birth match.

James, Phoebe, Mary Ann, Alfred, Elizabeth and Ellen.
Living at 8 York Road Terraces Battersea at birth of Amelia in 1862 and of Edmund in 1868.
James died aged 47 on 26th April 1868 of disease of the bladder. His occupation is shown as Foreman at a Candle Factory. The death was registered
by Geo Webb 37 Fords Buildings Battersea. (George Burgess Webb, his brother)

deceased at the time of her marriage, a miller. Her mother was Phebe§. She had a sister,
Ellenor Moss, who married William
Tilly and with whom her teenage daughters Phoebe, Bessie and Mary Ann

aged 62.
Phoebe Moss married James Webb on 15 Aug 1847.
She has no occupation on the 1851 census, but on the 1861 census she is listed as a Ladies Wardrobe!
She was illiterate - did not sign Frederick William's birth certificate
Phoebe remarried after James' death, in 1870. Her second husband's name was Henry Mayo, a widower who was a General Dealer.
His father was William Mayo, same occupation.
