James Webb¹§ was born in London in about 1796, and married Mary Ann Burgess§ (born about 1800) on 11th Oct 1819 at St Leonard's Church, Shoreditch, London.
He was an engineer, and he died in early 1837, leaving his wife, Mary Ann about to give birth and with 6 children between the ages of 16 and 8. He was buried at St Mary's Church, Lambeth on 19th March 1837 (source: Parish Records). When he died the family were living at Vauxhall walk, Lambeth.
1841 census: Bond Street, Vauxhall, Mary Ann Webb aged 41 living with James (19, an engineer), William (16, MS), Mary-Ann (12), Thomas (10), George (7) and Edward (4) as well as James Weddell, an engineer aged 22.

married Edwin Parr (b. 1820 St Giles Middx) in 1848 (marriage ref Jun 1848 Lambeth 4 263)
1851 census living at 1a Pulford Street, St George Hanover Square, Westminster. He is a grocer. With them is William Webb, brother in law, aged 26, a shopman, also born Hackney.

Born: 1829, Lambeth, Surrey. He has a whole page to himself as his family is so large!

1871 census - at 37 Ford's Buildings Battersea - George = stoker, with wife Ellen, and children Ellen M, George B, Emma M, William and Jane R.
Had another child, Bessie, then emigrated to New Zealand
shortly afterwards with their children

5) Mary Ann Margaret Webb
Born 1826 / 1827 - aged 34 on the 1861 census, a dressmaker, living with her brother Thomas, his wife and children at Falcon Road Battersea. Not found afterwards.
6) Edward John Burgess Webb (Ned)

Christened 16th April 1837, Saint Mary, Lambeth, London, England.
This was a tragic time for his family: his baptism record shows his father as "James, engineer, (dec?)"
and indeed, burial records show that James was buried on 19th March that same year. At the time, the family was
living at Vauxhall Walk, Lambeth. (source: Parish Records)

1861 census living with his aunts Margaret and Susan Burgess at 1 Arthur Street, Tower Hamlets Hackney. He is a coppersmith and they are laundresses.
Married Jane Hill late in 1862 and had 5 children (source: 1881 census) (sent for marr cert 20/11/04)

On 1891 census he is a clerk, single, living with his parents and siblings.
On 1901 census he is a clerk, married to Florence (aged 23 = 1878, born Croydon) at Wansunt (?) Villa, near Station Road, Crayford, Kent with boarders Edward Oake, Alfred Jones and Herbert Sortwell, Edward and Herbert are engineer fitters, Alfred is an engineer turner. Possibly Florence Ann Somerville marr ref: 1898 Sept Wandsworth 1d 1038 Found her in 1891 census - her age and place of birth match.
7) James Webb² §
Born: approx. 1822, Hackney, Middlesex
Married Phoebe Moss on 15 Aug 1847
Address on 1851 census: York Road, Battersea. He was 29 and an engineer living there with his wife, Phoebe and their children James and Phoebe plus his brother, Thomas, aged 21.
Address on 1861 census: 4(?) York Road Terraces Battersea. He was 39 and an engineer living there with his wife, Phoebe and their children James, Phoebe, Mary Ann, Alfred, Elizabeth and Ellen.
Living at 8 York Road Terraces Battersea at birth of Amelia in 1862 and of Edmund in 1868.
James died aged 47 on 26th April 1868 of disease of the bladder. His occupation is shown as Foreman at a Candle Factory. The death was registered by Geo Webb 37 Fords Buildings Battersea. (George Burgess Webb, his brother)
Married to Phoebe Moss §(Webb):
Born: approx. 1828, Sutton-At-Hone Kent, daughter of David Moss§, deceased at the time of her marriage, a miller. Her mother was Phebe§. She had a sister, Ellenor Moss, who married William Tilly and with whom her teenage daughters Phoebe, Bessie and Mary Ann went to live. (Source: marriage certs, census and IGI) William Tilly died 6th December 1886 at 15 North Street aged 62.
Phoebe Moss married James Webb on 15 Aug 1847.
She has no occupation on the 1851 census, but on the 1861 census she is listed as a Ladies Wardrobe!
She was illiterate - did not sign Frederick William's birth certificate
Phoebe remarried after James' death, in 1870. Her second husband's name was Henry Mayo, a widower who was a General Dealer. His father was William Mayo, same occupation.

At 1901 census living with Henry & son William (b. 1894) & Ellen & Amelia at 17 Ilminster Gardens.
Died aged 63, a widow, as Henry had died in 1905.

Was left £20 in her aunt Ellenor Tilly's will in 1895.
? 1901 census has her as single, living with the Hosfords in Ilminster Gardens, age 38 - would make her born in 1863
Married William Robert Stringer in April/May/June 1901 in Wandsworth and later they went to live in Southsea.
Died: 30 Jun 1927, aged 68
3) Amelia Webb (Minnie)
