Congratulations to John Connor and howard Ellis who have each won a copy of Peter Hook's new book: The Hacienda - How not To Run A Club in our competition
In the bookPeter Hook tells the amazing true story – the music, the madness and the meltdown – of Manchester’s most iconic nightclub
As a founder member of hugely successful bands Joy Division and New Order and co-owner of The Haçienda, Peter Hook writes from the epicentre of the Baggy, Madchester and Acid House music scenes, offering significant new insights into a pivotal moment in popular music history
Illustrated throughout with previously un-published photograph’s from the author’s personal archives and narrated with a compelling honesty, THE HAÇIENDA stands as classic work of music biography
25 Aug Manchester: Looking for the Light through the Pouring Rain - Kevin Cummins - Hardback - RRP £30
Published: 17th September 2009
No of pages: 400
ISBN: 9780571233755
Manchester, its bands, its fashions, its attitude, has defined pop culture for the best part of four decades. Joy Division, The Fall, Buzzcocks, New Order, The Smiths, Happy Mondays, Stone Roses, Oasis. These were the bands that shaped two generations of teenagers and changed the course of pop music.
Manchester: Looking for the Light through the Pouring Rain is a portrait of these individuals, the city, and their times. Whether it be on a rain-soaked stage in Brazil, a rented room in Whalley Range, or on the dancefloor of the legendary Hacienda, Kevin Cummins' exquisite photographs capture the anarchic energy of the Manchester pop moment. This stunning visual record of the city and its pop history is complemented by four textual contributions from Paul Morley, Stuart Maconie, Gavin Martin and John Harris. What is it about that city that makes it the Memphis of the UK?
Cummins' photographic record of the past 30 years captures the highs, the lows and the transcendent pop moments of Manchester's most famous sons.

The book is definitely not coming out.
As far as most publishers are concerned "Joy Division are too niché - nobody is interested in them".
That's what they think...incredible.
On a happier note: Kevin is looking for someone who thinks he looks like Ian Curtis - or maybe his friends think so - for a photo feature.
Preferably in or around London and the South East. It'll take a couple
of hours and the lucky person doesn't even have to leave the house to
do it. Click here if you think it's you25 June New Order's Glastonbury set included two Joy Division songs:

It's the film footage that was thought lost: A quarter century after the Plan K concert, video footage of the complete 30 minute set (with Barney on bass) has been unearthed by Ikon&'s Brian Nicholson while preparing for the 18 May ikon& night.
Fans knew at least part of the concert had been filmed as a short clip of slow motion footage, a few seconds long and without sound, appeared on the commercially released Here Are The Young Men video.
This is another important find from Ikon& and Brian Nicholson as they recently unearthed footage of 24 Hours and Disorder from the Apollo gigs which didn't make it onto the Here Are The Young Men video.
About 100 fans were delighted to see these films along with other rare footage from the vaults last night at the 18 May ikon& night.

26 May Film Update:
The film of Deborah Curtis's "Touching From A Distance" is due to start shooting early 2005:
LA / Pittsburgh Based Claraflora have the exclusive option and have been "working closely" with Deborah Curtis who will act as co-producer.
According to company principle Todd Eckert the film will tell the true story of Ian Curtis "We're looking to give the world a truthful view of who Ian really was ... Given his suicide, there's so much concentration on the dark side of his life. We want to also concentrate on the energy that made people love Ian and Joy Division in the first place, while putting difficult elements such as his epilepsy into perspective. It will be a balanced approach - this isn't the rock and roll Shine."
Claraflora are currently finalising directors, actors and script.
Just to confuse matters a different film was announced at the Cannes film festival - apparently to be directed by Amy Hobby with with Moby as music supervisor. This sounds like the people from Double A films who previously had the option on the book. 29th Sept Warsaw CD page updated - Baby Face CD now has different inlay 20th Sept Warsaw CD page updated - Baby Face CD now has different inlay 20th Sept Cover versions page updated thanks to Andrew 3rd Sept Important News: a full tape of the Genetic demos has finally come to light and a full version of Digital was indeed recorded as part of that session. An incomplete version of Exercise One was also recorded - many thanks to Brett for this information
This is exciting news for collectors. Until now all we have known is that Digital was probably recorded at that time - but it was thought that the song was incomplete (hence it not being included on the Heart & Soul box set). We knew nothing about a version of Exercise One.
With the recording turning up or, to be more precise, escaping into the wild 23 years after after the session it proves that there are still tracks and demos waiting to be unearthed - and if you know of any please let us know!
