25th January 1978: Pips Disco, 55 Fennel Street, Manchester This was their first gig as Joy Division - although the advert in the Manchester Evening news still calls them Warsaw. Ian had trouble getting past the doorman but made it onto the stage on time. Shortly after they started their set a fight broke out, Peter jumped off stage and into the fray and the club's manager tried to throw them off stage. This venue is not to be confused with Pipers which was on Spring Gardens
