Radio station Recording:
The Bernard Lenoir programme on France Inter radio has broadcast parts of this recording a number of times over
the years. According to Mark Johnson’s “An Ideal For Living” book the full recording was broadcast in 1982 on the
night New Order played La Palace in Paris. In any event, the fact that Inter Radio has a high quality version of
this recording as late as 2001 is good news as this could potentially provide an (even) better quality recording
than the Les Bains Douches CD.
As at 2007 we believe Bernard Lenoir played the following tracks on the dates below:

1979 – original broadcast
Apparantly this five song broadcast was on the night of the concert – 18th December 1979.
Features commentary between tracks in French which roughly translates as:
[Shadowplay] ... “Joy Division live from Les Bains Douches with an old ghost of Jim Morrison who drags himself
around there”.
[Transmission] ... “Transmission by Joy Division the title of ther last single dance to the radio and if one day
you start dancing like the singer of Joy Division be careful not to be taken away by the two nurses from the psychiatric
hospital”.
[Day Of The Lords] ... “Joy Division Live From Bains Douches”
[24 Hours] ... “Joy Division”
Appx. duration: 20 mins. Sound quality: 8-/9
1982 - rebroadcast
According to Mark Johnson's "An Ideal For Living" book the full recording was broadcast on the same night
New Order played a gig at the Le Palace in Paris, France, the date was 17th April 1982. It's been suggested that
the reason no tape recording of this has been circulated, is because all the Joy Division fans were at the New
Order gig rather than sitting at home listening to their radios. No tape exists - unless the two "1980s- possible
rebroadcast" tracks are from this?
1980s - possible rebroadcast:
In 2004 a different recording of the last two songs (Atrocity Exhibition and Warsaw) was discovered on an old cassette
from the mid-1980s. Both songs appear to be either from an uncirculated, possibly longer/complete soundboard recording
or as we've assumed above a different, unknown FM broadcast probably in the 1980s. There is no internal cut in
Warsaw.
Appx. duration: 9 mins. Sound quality: 8+/9
1994 - rebroadcast:
Broadcast on Les Inrockuptibles", Radio France Inter 20th December, this was a sort of surprise Christmas
present to listeners around the 15th anniversary of the concert. Lenoir and his producer Michelle Soullier cued
the tape after the first batch of songs, and said something along the lines of 'let's listen to more of this show'
and so they skipped 'Colony' - however we do know it exists on their tape. Lenoir had stated that the tape used
for this rebroadcast was a backup / working copy as the original master tape was nowhere to be found.
Appx. duration: 35 mins. Sound quality: 9/9
2001 - rebroadcast:
'Passover' was broadcast for first time during a Joy Division / New Order special on 7th November - a few days
before the New Order gig at L'Olympia Paris
