To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the passing of Joy Division's Ian Curtis, legendary photographer Kevin Cummins has created — in collaboration with Tangerine Press — a bible-style photobook called Ian Curtis: Memento Mori.
Over the past six years, Mr Cummins has been photographing items left on Ian’s ‘grave’, all the while with this most unusual project in the back of his mind.
The book contains full colour photos of 65 of these items, along with other photos of Macclesfield Crematorium. There is a frontispiece photo of Ian (the famous one in his coat, smoking) and an essay about loss/permanence by Dr Gail Crowther. There is a final, iconic image of Ian to 'book-end' the run.
